Club News
“I would like you to pass on my compliments to
Graham Duncan and his staff for a very enjoyable meal on Saturday 2nd August at the Parisian Evening.
Our group of friends frequent quality restaurants
around Central Scotland and I must say that the food
that was presented to us on Saturday is up there
with the best of them.
Also, we had guests at the Invitation Greensomes
on Sunday and they were most impressed with
the condition of the course – 'what a turn round in less than 9 months' was one of their comments.
Please pass on our compliments to Matt and his staff. Carmuirs
is well on its way to getting back as one of the best courses
to play golf and entertain guests at”

Top Amateur visits Club Pro Stewart Craig
Top amateur golfer Jason Shufflebotham visited club professional Stewart Craig this week for a swing tune up prior to two of his biggest tournaments of the year.
Shufflebotham who is on a golf scholarship at the University of Alabama is home for 4 months to play in all of the U.Ks top amateur events.
Jason said “I’m in Scotland to play in the St Andrews Links Trophy this week and the British Amateur championships next week and I’ve been struggling a bit with my swing. My regular coach at home in Prestatyn David Ames recommended that I came to see Stewart this week to get my swing straightened out and I’m so glad that I did. Stewart’s teaching facility is awesome, really second to none and he is a fantastic coach, in no time at all he had me striping the ball again.
I must also say thank you to Stewart and Falkirk Golf Club for the courtesy of the course and the practice facilities for the two days that I spent here. The condition of the course and facilities were amazing, in particular the greens were superb to putt on and really helped with my preparations. I would also like to say thank you to everyone I met for the really warm welcome you extended to me it really felt like being at home.”
Catering Update
Following the recent withdrawal of Stephen & Kirsty Mathews from the catering contract, the club entered into discussions with the Head Chef Graham Duncan regarding the possibility of taking the catering "in-house".
We are delighted to announce that Graham has agreed to a new role as "Head Chef - Falkirk Golf Club", as this will enable the club to continue to provide the high quality catering service that our members and visitors alike have come to enjoy.
The Club will continue to manage the catering until further notice and we look forward to receiving the continued support of all our members. See the members noticeboard for details of some fabulous dining promotions.
An Ace Start to the Season!
Alison Goodwin (pictured left) got the golf season of to a flying start on with a hole in one at the 99 yard second hole. Alison was playing in a Par 3 competition with Stirlingshire & Clackmannan County Girls Golf Association, which had been organised by County Coach Stewart Craig.
Craig who has been the girls county coach now for 4 years said, "I was lucky enough to be standing right next to the green as Alison hit the shot. It was very impressive as it was into a very strong breeze which was against and across the hole. It was the kind of hole in one every player dreams about landing 4 feet behind the pin and spinning back into the hole."
It was Alison’s first hole in one, but almost certainly not her last!
Greenkeeping News June 2008
And now the real work begins...
6 months have now passed since my arrival at Falkirk Golf Club and I am delighted with the way things are progressing on the golf course and in particular the greens. We still know that there is a fair way to go before we get the course finally in the condition we all believe it should be in, however we are heading in the right direction.
Some of you may have noticed that we have started to develop the practice facilities here at Falkirk. Work is progressing with the lower practice area with the reinstatement of the top putting green, the opening of the putting and chipping green and the shaping of the practice area. We have also created measured distance flags on both sides of the practice area.
The redevelopment of the top practice facility is now underway. Our plan is to maintain the area as a measured par three course with fairways, rough and larger as well as better maintained greens.
We really hope that this will assist in helping to improve the standard of golf within our membership but also help to grow our junior section into one that we can all be proud of.
I would like to pass on my thanks to John Weir for giving up some of his precious time to come and spend a couple of days on the rough cutter while we were short handed, this is of huge help and is very much appreciated.
DON’T STOP NOW JOHN!
Matt Thomson, Head Greenkeeper
