31st May 2010 - The Gent's Team from Carmuirs won the final of the County Foursomes on Thursday night when they beat Stirlingshire County Junior & Youths.

Congratulations to the victorious players - Neil Cunningham, Kenny Anderson, Colin Mundie and Mark Cox.

In the first game Neil Cunningham & Kenny Anderson were 1 up with 2 to play, in the second match Colin Mundie & Mark Cox were 3 up with 2 to play and therefore the team won 4 up with 3 to play. After 3 years in a row finishing runners up it was a case of 4 time lucky for the boys.

The club now have the Gents County Champion, the Ladies County Champion, The Inner County League Champions and the County Foursomes Champions. With the Alexander Trophy at Carmuirs in July there is a chance we can add to our already impressive haul of County Titles!!

Louise MacGregor Wins County Championship

15th May 2010 - Louise MacGregor became Stirling and Clackmannan County Ladies Champion last night with an emphatic 5 and 4 victory over Linda Allen (Falkirk Tryst). Watched by a very large crowd, Louise putted to victory on the fourteenth green to seal the first County Championship by a Falkirk Golf Club Lady in nineteen years.

On a fine night for golf Louise's round got off to a great start as she went one up after the first hole. From there on in Louise played a solid round of golf until the short eleventh hole where both players left their balls short of the green. Louise's up and down was enough to put her three up going on to the twelfth tee.

Bizarrely, Louise managed to hit an overhead power cable with her second shot on the twelfth. Re-loading, her second second shot reached just short of the green. Linda found trouble to the right of the green and lost the hole as a result - 4 up to Louise!

Both players missed the thirteenth green, Louise's ball finding the bunker to the left. A magnificent bunker shot close to the pin was enough to put pressure on Linda and Louise went to dormy 5.

Two fine drives at the fourteenth found the middle of the fairway, Louise's ball coming to rest beside the 150 yard marker. Linda's approach shot landed on the green, whilst Louise's ball rolled off the back left leaving a tricky chip towards the hole.

Despite the pressure of the moment Louise managed to put the ball to within four feet and putt out for victory! Caddy Jamie Lynch punched the air and an emotional Louise received the applause of the crowd and congratulations from Linda, her caddy and Jamie before being engulfed by family and friends!

Linda was gracious in defeat and had the unenviable task as County Captain of also making the speech in the clubhouse before the presentation of the trophy. From there on it was celebration time!

Brilliant - well done Louise from all at Falkirk Golf Club you've made us very proud!

Colin Mundie Wins County Championship

The Champion returns with the spoils of victory!
Colin gets a guard of honour after winning the County Championship

Falkirk win County Inter-Club League for first time in 20 years

Champions!
Champions after more than 20 years!
Falkirk Golf Club A Team convincingly beat Polmont GC in the last match of the season to win the Stirlingshire Golf Union A League - for the first time in over 20 years. Here Captain Ian Murray celebrates with the rest of the team, from left to right, Jim Leishman, Kenny Anderson, Neil Cunnigham, Stuart Haddow, Ian Murray, Graeme Gardiner, Davy Ritchie and Colin Mundie.

This year's Inter Club League Matches began with a difficult home game against Glenbervie. On a cold and blustery May evening, our team's campaign got off to the worst possible start. Unusually, it was the away players who mastered the difficult conditions and Glenbervie ran out convincing 6 - 2 winners. Home team winners on the night were Blair Paterson and Stuart Haddow.

After the disappointment of the Glenbervie match, the team faced a tough away match to Kilsyth. Kilsyth is a notoriously difficult place to go and get anything. In fact, several years ago, a Falkirk Tryst player commented, "The European Ryder Cup team would struggle to get a result at Kilsyth!"

Undaunted, the team travelled to Kilsyth in confident mood and upset the odds by claiming a fantastic 5 ½  - 2 ½  victory. Winners on the day were Stuart Haddow, Jim Leishman, Mark Cox, Colin Mundie and Graeme Gardiner. Credit also goes to Kenny Anderson would battled hard for a halved match.

Next stop for the team was the local derby match away against Falkirk Tryst. Again, this is an exceptionally difficult place to go and win given that the Tryst team have won the league for the past 2 years. With all of the games being close the overall result could have gone either way but thankfully the boys held on to record an excellent 5 - 3 victory. Club winners on the night were Stuart Haddow, Mark Cox, Jim Leishman and Colin Mundie. David Ritchie and Kenny Anderson both gained valuable half points.

Our final away fixture of this year's campaign was at Bridge of Allan. Again, a notoriously difficult place to get a result as local knowledge gives the home team a huge advantage. The conditions on the night were wet and windy (typical Scottish summer!') and once again all matches were very tight with the early indications pointing to a close match. This proved to be correct and the team won the last 2 games on the course to secure a 4 - 4 draw. Winners on the evening were Stuart Haddow, Jim Leishman, Colin Mundie and Graeme Gardiner. A special mention should go to Stuart Haddow who fought back from 3 down with 7 to play to win 1 up, with a magnificent birdie 2 at the last, to maintain his 100% record.

With other results working in our favour it now became clear we needed to win our last 2 matches to win the league. The penultimate game was the match at home to Grangemouth who were also in contention for the league title. Our players sensed this could be our year and helped by a large home support responded magnificently storming to a resounding 7 - 1 victory. Winners were Neil Cunningham, Stuart Haddow, Colin Mundie, Graeme Gardiner, Dave Ritchie and Jim Leishman. One down one to go!!

Monday 24th August 2009 - our final match was played at home to Polmont. The Polmont side had been relegated the previous week and our team's remit was clear: Win the game and win the League. Again, the players responded to the challenge and were ahead in every match by the turn. First to secure victory was Kenny Anderson. He was shortly followed by Stuart Haddow, Colin Mundie and lan Murray. With 4 points secured the next winner would have the honour of securing the league winning point. This fell to Dave Ritchie who, fittingly, won his match in considerable style, holing from 45 feet on the 15th green.

Amid jubilant scenes Graeme Gardiner offered his opponent a halved match as the league was won but Jim Leishman, determined to maintain his 100% record, played on to record a 1 up victory. For the first time in over 20 years the club's team have won the League title. This has been a real team effort with everyone contributing to the success. The team spirit amongst the players has been tremendous with everyone pulling for each other and more importantly pulling for the team.

Congratulations go to all who have played this year: Neil Cunningham, Stuart Haddow, Colin Mundie, Graeme Gardiner, Kenny Anderson, Jim Leishman, David Ritchie, Mark Cox, Ian Murray, Blair Paterson and Paul Miller.
